Westborough – Mark Mettler, a resident of Westborough, officially became a member of the Massachusetts Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth in a ceremony recently held at the Statehouse in Boston.

Mettler is the married father of two adult children, the younger of whom is a 22-year-old transgender female. He’s been a volunteer speaker for Greater Boston PFLAG for the last several years, and last July was elected Board Chair of the organization.

“I’m taking advantage of this opportunity to join the Commission because I’m interested in learning more about the way public entities, nonprofit organizations, and private businesses work together to address challenges in our society,” said Mettler.

After a 32 year career in corporate America, he recently began a sabbatical to figure out how he wants to spend the rest of his life. Part of his motivation was to devote more time to his work with PFLAG, and more broadly to supporting LGBT rights and improving environments and outcomes for LGBT youth.

The Commission on LGBTQ Youth is established by law as an independent state agency to recommend and advocate to all branches of state government effective policies, programs and resources for LGBTQ youth to thrive. Founded in 1992 as the first body of its kind in the nation, the Commission has been advocating for LGBTQ youth wellbeing in and out of school for more than two decades.
