Obit William A MillerMarlborough – William A. Miller, 76, of Marlborough, died Thursday, March 17, 2016, surrounded by friends and family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 16, 1940 in Boston, he was predeceased by his parents, Max and Eva (Cohen) Miller. He was a lifelong resident of Marlborough.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 46 years, Janet; his daughter, Deena of Ferrisburgh, Vt. and her husband David Croke; his son, Michael and his wife Karla of Northborough; and his grandchildren, Leah, Allie, Ethan, and Max. One of Bill and Janet’s greatest pleasures was spending time at their summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H., where they enjoyed countless good times with family and friends.

He held several positions on his local board and trained new officials right up until his death. He received the highest honor in his basketball organization (IAABO) in 2008 when he was honored as a Life Member.

In the 1970s, Bill helped found the Marlborough Youth Basketball Association through the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club; an organization which still exists today. He was awarded the Man and Boy of the Year award for his dedication and service to the youth of Marlborough. He also served as treasurer of the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for many years.

Always generous with his time, Bill helped run many political campaigns for friends seeking office in Marlborough, assisted in organizing basketball tournaments, coached many youth in basketball and baseball, and enjoyed coordinating and playing in golf tournaments throughout New England.

Bill was a graduate of the Marlborough High School, class of 1958, and received a BS in Accounting from Bentley College. He was employed by Raytheon for more than 40 years in the financial sector before retiring in 2002.
