Obit Thomas G LeonardGrafton – Thomas G. Leonard, DDS, 81, of Grafton, formerly of Wayland, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 following a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Jane K. (Keating) Leonard; his children, James Leonard and his wife Stacie, Thomas Jr. and his wife Fran, Marcia Leonard, and John Leonard and his wife Sydonie; and his grandchildren, James Jr., Jordan, Christopher, Michael, Nicholas, Katherine, Jennifer and Mia Leonard, and Megan and Jessica Seery. His sister, Marie Finn, predeceased him.

Tom was born August 19, 1934 in Chelsea, son of the late Delia Bertha (Lynch) and Thomas J. Leonard. He was a 1952 graduate of Boston College High School and a 1956 graduate of Boston College.

Tom and Jane met in Washington, D.C. while he was attending Georgetown Dental School and she was attending Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross. They were married on July 2, 1960, and moved to Quantico, Va. where he practiced dentistry during his service in the U.S. Navy. He opened his own dentistry practice on Cochituate Road in Wayland in 1962, taking care of his patients in the community he loved for 32 years.

Following his retirement, from dental practice he and his wife moved to North Grafton.

Away from work, Tom and Jane would head for their home in Falmouth, which became the center of their family life for many years, spending holidays and enjoying the summer sun at Surf Drive and Menhaunt Beach with their children and grandchildren.

Later in life, Tom found joy in working at the Marlborough and North Grafton Middle schools as a substitute teacher.

All are invited to gather with Tom’s family and friends Tuesday, March 22, from 4-7 p.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 23, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St., Worcester. He will then be laid to rest at North Cemetery in Wayland.
