Grafton—Perched on over 220 acres overlooking the Blackstone Valley and boasting panoramic vistas, Highfields Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole championship golf course. The club, located at 42 Magill Dr. in Grafton, offers golf, function rooms and a tavern.
The Highfields golf course was designed by Mungeam Cornish Golf Design in Douglas and Grafton-based Magill Associates. The well-designed and manicured course has bent grass throughout—on tees, fairways and greens. It was created in 2002 from the Magill family dairy farm, and the family owns the business.
“Highfields has become home to many, many golfers in the greater Worcester/Blackstone Valley area and points beyond,” said Roger Adams, PGA head golf professional at the club.
“The property is spectacular and views are amazing. Highfields is an exceptional value and a wonderful course with a friendly, non-intrusive staff.”
Highfields is a public golf course with season passes available. Adams noted it also sponsors Inner Club, a membership group for organized, competitive golf.
Adams has been named one of the PGA’s Top 50 kids’ teachers, and Highfields offers a Junior Academy with lessons for children 13 and under, summer golf camps for ages 7 to 13, and private junior lessons for ages 17 and under. Highfields is part of the PGA Junior League, and its teams play against other area clubs.
Overlooking the practice area and the 18th green is the John Henry Tavern, a full-service restaurant open for lunch and dinner and offering daily specials, a children’s menu and gluten-free options. Patrons can enjoy appetizers, entrees or desserts inside or on the patio.
The Tavern is open to the public and accepts reservations. Hours are Monday, 3 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.
Anthony Elefteriou, restaurant manager, noted the Tavern will be adding wine and beer tastings this year and will continue live entertainment twice a month on weekends. A special Mother’s Day menu is planned, and in June the Tavern hosts a Hawaiian-themed event celebrating the birthday of one of Hawaii’s kings. Elefteriou said full details on upcoming events will be available on Highfields’ Facebook page.
“We have an extensive selection of beers and an excellent wine and cocktails list at great prices,” he added, “and our staff is amazing and attentive.”
With spectacular views, Highfields’ function rooms provide an elegant choice for any event, including weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, holiday parties, corporate functions and other special occasions.
The Claddagh Room can accommodate up to 200 guests and includes wrap-around windows and a dance floor, as well as an outdoor patio. The Grill Room is ideal for smaller functions, such as bridal and baby showers.
“Our dedicated staff will assist you in planning all aspects of your event, so you can relax and enjoy your day,” said AnnMarie Mong, Director of Sales and Catering.
Adjoining the golf property is a community of traditional, luxury, single-family homes set on premium home sites. The community is being developed by Magill Associates, one of the most respected names in home building for the Blackstone Valley.
Residents enjoy additional green spaces and tree-lined buffer areas which add visual beauty and community integrity. A selection of these choice homes is currently available.
“The Magill family has seen a dream turn into a reality, and what a wonderful reality it is,” said Adams.
