Shrewsbury – The St. John’s High School Pioneers baseball team defeated the visiting Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 5-4 in a game played April 21.
Algonquin’s Matt Geoffrion hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to tie up the game at 4-4. St. John’s Jack Fields led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, who was replaced by pinch runner Matt Defalco. Three pitches later, Jack Gardner hit a double to center field, driving in Defalco for the walk-off win.
Jared Wetherbee had 13 strikeouts over six innings. Jake Rosen hit a home run and a double in the victory, and Gardner had 3 hits and an RBI.
Geoffrion struck out 5 in five innings of pitching, and had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Justin O’Connell had a double and 2 RBI’s, and Alex Pappas had 2 singles.
St. John’s improves to 5-1 on the season while Algonquin falls to 2-3.
