Marlborough – The site plan with conditions for the construction of 40 one-and two-bedroom apartments at 29 South Bolton St. was approved by the city council at its May 9 meeting,  following reconfirmation by city councilors Joseph Delano and Matthew Elder that parking was not an issue. The request was granted to Fish Restaurant owner George Voyiatzis who is planning to build the apartments above his restaurant at the corner of South Bolton Street and Granger Boulevard.

Delano and Elder referred to a comprehensive traffic and parking study that had been conducted by Voyiatzis during deliberations with the Urban Affairs committee which convinced city department heads and committee members that adequate accommodations will be provided.  Located at the property are Starbucks, Dominos Pizza, Stony Brook Market and Melon Frozen Yogurt, which will remain open during construction.

During Urban Affairs meetings where the construction project was discussed in detail, Voyiatzis explained his plans for the construction phase and its impact on the area, using guidelines provided by the city solicitor, conservation commissioner and Site Plan Review committee.

In other business, councilors approved a LED sign permit for Marlborough Savings Bank to be placed at its 71 Boston Post Road East location.
