Marlborough – The City Council approved a special permit allowing the expansion of the patio at Firefly’s restaurant, 350 East Main St. during its May 9 meeting. Steve Uliss, chef owner of Firefly’s, plans to use the added space for acoustic music, television sets, three natural gas fire pits, covered seating, a small bar, kitchen and recreation area for games.
During a recent public hearing several neighbors expressed concern about fencing and the dumpster area behind the restaurant. During a meeting of the Urban Affairs committee, Uliss reported that repairs had been made which prompted approval by the committee and the recommendation to the full council for approval.
The patio’s capacity will remain at 75 patrons who will continue to enter through the main entrance to keep a running count and assure occupancy requirements will be met. The patio will be open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
