Grafton – Incumbent Craig Dauphinais and former Planning Board Chair Sargon Hanna defeated a third candidate, Edward Prisby, to win the two seats in a close race for the Board of Selectmen during the May 17 Annual Town Election. Dauphinais gathered the most votes with 1,049, followed by Hanna, who had 970 and Prisby, who received 867.
Maureen McCallion Cohen and Jennifer O. Connelly won three year terms for the school committee and Terri Turgeon had a successful write-in campaign to win a one year term.
Three questions were also on the ballot. The first, which asked for funding for a new Department of Public Works building, failed 986 – 586. That point was mute, regardless, as the proposal did not garner the required 2/3 approval at the May 9 Town Meeting. The other two ballot questions, which dealt with requested monies for a new fire engine and a new fire pumper, were also mute, as both were passed over at the Town Meeting at the request of town officials who are in the process of assessing those needs.
