Westborough – After hearing a noise inside the chimney in her Westborough home today, Susan Flynn knew that something was trapped in there.

“We didn’t know what it was until my daughter Kate had an idea to take a video inside the chimney,” Flynn said. “Well, as it turned out, it was an absolutely beautiful wood duck.”

She then called the town’s animal control officer, John Keefe, for help.

“John was happy to come to the rescue, as usual. We had called upon him a few other times,” she said. “What a dedicated guy.”

After rescuing the duck from the chimney,  Keefe saw that it was injured. He then put the duck into a crate so that he could bring it to the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton.

Noting that Keefe is soon retiring, Flynn said that “Westborough will miss such a dedicated and caring man.”
