Obit Sr. Adrienne Belanger SSAMarlborough – Sister Adrienne Belanger (Sister Mary Clarisse), a Sister of St. Anne, died at Marie Esther Health Center Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

Born in Worcester, she was the youngest child of the late Eugene and Emma Belanger. She joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec, pronounced vows and was assigned to their Queen of Angels Province in Dorval, Q.C. At her death, she was in her 63rd year of vowed religious life.

A graduate of the former St. Anne’s Academy in Marlborough, Sister Adrienne also attended the former Worcester School of Business Science. She earned a B.A. degree from Anna Maria College, a B.A. degree in Education from the University of Montreal and Teaching Diplomas from the Department of Education, Province of Quebec.

Throughout her teaching career, she taught at high schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne in Montreal, Quebec. Among these were Resurrection High, St. Pius X, and St Anne Academy. Following 30 years of teaching, Sister Adrienne spent the next 20 years or more, involved in community finances and as secretary to the Queen of Angels leadership groups. Before returning to the United States, she was a volunteer at the Ignatian Center, in Montreal and enjoyed a ministry to the elderly at the Institute for the Blind also in Montreal.

Sister Adrienne was predeceased by her parents and three siblings. She will be mourned by her sister, Sister Clarisse Belanger, SSA; nephews and a niece; and her religious family of the Sisters of St. Anne, especially Sister Claire Williams SSA.

Her funeral was held May 23 at St. Anne Convent Chapel in Marlborough, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home of Marlborough.
