Grafton sidewalks get another look

Grafton – At the start of its May 24 meeting, the Grafton Board of Selectmen welcomed newly elected member Sargon Hanna to the board and named Jennifer Thomas as its chair for the coming year.

During the meeting, the board discussed the ongoing concern about what many residents perceive to be a lack of suitable town sidewalks. This topic had been discussed during the recent campaign for different elected positions in Grafton. The sense of the board was the incorporation of bettering sidewalks as part of the ongoing road repair project using Chapter 90 money, which reimburses documented expenditures. The money comes from state Transportation Bond issues for highway construction and is a 100 percent reimbursable program. Stowe Road and Carrol Road were noted by name as needing sidewalks, with an estimate of $600,000 to $800,000 to do so for Stowe Road.

Also on the agenda was a continuation of the ongoing discussion about preservation of town grasslands and parks.
