Obit Rebecca NelsonMarlborough – Rebecca A. (Roucoulet) Nelson, of Marlborough, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Tippett Hospice Home in Needham. She was 66.

Rebecca was born Feb. 24, 1950 in Rutland, Vt., a daughter of the late Donald and Alice (Germaine) Roucoulet. Raised and educated in Rutland, she was a graduate of Rutland High School with the class of 1968, and then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Castleton State University. She married Jon D. Nelson Sept. 23, 1995, and had been a resident of Marlborough for over 19 years.

As a skilled seamstress, Becky owned and operated “Rebecca’s Dresses.” With her creativity and love and passion for all things needle, fabric, and thread, she designed, created and repurposed many wedding gowns for brides and christening gowns for newborns. She regularly organized an annual “Princess Boutique” charity event to provide hundreds of underprivileged girls with free custom-fit prom dresses. She served as past president of the New England Chapter of Sewing and Design Professionals and was a former member of the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers.

Other interests included a knowledge and passion for most things athletic and followed all New England sports teams. She was an honorary family member of the Master Singers of Worcester by virtue of her husband, Jon, being an active member, and often travelled with them on concert tours.

In addition to her husband of 20 years, Jon, she leaves her siblings, Ed Roucoulet and his wife Gayle of Mount Airy, N.C., Monique Densmore and her husband Jay, and Jeraldine “Jeri” Wyman, both of Castleton, Vt.; her in-laws, Steve and Cathy Nelson and Erik and Carol Nelson, all of Shrewsbury; nieces and nephews; and her much loved cats at home. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Donald Roucoulet Jr.

Becky’s family and friends will gather to honor and remember her life privately in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors – The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury.
