Marlborough – On a cool, breezy June 9, Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce members met with college-bound students for the annual Scholarship Evening at Wayside Athletic Club. The presentation was emceed by Darren McLaughlin, general manager of Wayside, president of Marlborough Regional Community Foundation (MRCF), and chair of MRCC Scholarship and School to Business committees.
Once again sponsoring the barbecue was Hologic, Inc., a Marlborough-based developer, manufacturer and supplier of products with an emphasis on women’s healthcare needs. This year they presented the Giselle R. Rodriguez Hologic Scholarship for $2,000 to Keily Gonzalez, a Marlborough High School (MHS) graduate.
Through MRCF, the chamber awarded $1,000 scholarships to graduates Trevor Currin, Hudson High School; John Hulton, Advanced Math & Science Academy (AMSA) Charter School; Michael MacCormak, MHS; and Katrina Pusateri, Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School (AVRTHS).
Wayside presented two scholarships totaling $1,500 to graduates Lindsay Mulligan, AMSA; and Ashley Marie Desko, MHS.
Also acknowledged were the recipients of the third Catherine Gregory Mogavero Business and Professional Association Award: graduates Fatima Awada, MHS; and Abigail Mangsen and Katrina Pusateri, AVRTHS. Each received $500 and competed in the National Leadership Conference held in Boston.
The presentations began with “The Star-Spangled Banner” played on the saxophone by 2015 MHS alum Sarah Hanahan. She will begin her sophomore year this fall at Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.
To further help the cause, the 22nd annual Wayside Run/Walk for Fun to benefit the MRCC Scholarship Fund will be held Wednesday, June 22, beginning and ending at Wayside. Pre-registration is $15. Same-day registration is $25 and begins at 5 p.m.; the run/walk begins at 6:30 p.m. Advance registration is available online at firm-racing.com.
