Obit Susan M. Wilcox

October 17, 1961  –  June 14, 2016

Shrewsbury – Susan M. Wilcox entered into our Lord’s loving embrace after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her children, Matthew C. Wilcox and his wife Saman Z. Wilcox, both of Worcester and Cameron M. Wilcox of Shrewsbury; her father in-law, Charles F. Wilcox; and her loving husband of 31 years, Michael C. Wilcox, also of Shrewsbury. Susan is also survived by a great many other relatives and lifelong friends.

Susan was born in Dedham, the fifth of nine children born to Paul F. and Sarah Cardinal, both of whom predeceased Susan. She is predeceased by her mother-in-law, with whom Susan had a close and loving relationship.

Susan worked as a shoe buyer, and when she had her first child she dedicated her life to raising her family. Susan was “Ma” to many of her sons’ friends and in every instance she stayed close with those young people. As her children matured, she returned to the workplace as a paralegal in the Worcester law firm of Aloise & Wilcox. She was involved in a number of social and charitable organizations in and around Shrewsbury. She enjoyed travel and spending time with her family and her long list of dear friends. Susan lived her life with a rare energy and when she was presented the diagnosis of cancer she fought the disease with style and grace.

Susan and her family would like to acknowledge and thank the nurses and doctors at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for their dedication and brilliance in assisting her through this most difficult time in her life.

Friends and relative are invited to a period of visitation Saturday, June 18, from 1-4 p.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
