Obit Edward SuchSouth Grafton – Edward J. Such, 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.

Ed was a resident of South Grafton for 87 years before declining health necessitated his moving to Eddy Pond Assisted Living in Auburn. His wife of 46 years, Eleanor R. (LeBeau) Such, passed March 18, 1992.

He leaves two sons, Robert Such and his wife Linda of Whitinsville and William Such of Willington, Conn., and one daughter, Janet Such of West Boylston; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Such and Keri Egan and her husband Eric; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kailynn and Addison Egan; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved cat, Alphonse. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walther and Henry Such, and five sisters, Helen Beauregard, Stella Elkinson, Julia Baran, Pauline Hospod and Michaelina Such.

Ed was born July 29, 1922 in the Farnumsville Village of South Grafton, the son of the late Joseph and Olimpia (Tomkiewicz) Such. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater with Torpedo Squadron 14 aboard the USS Wasp. He flew 27 combat missions as a Turret Gunner in an Avenger.

He was employed at Valley Tool Company for 34 years and at Worcester Gear Works Inc., for nine years, retiring in 1989.

Ed was a lifelong parishioner of Saint James Catholic Church in South Grafton, a member of the Polish National Home, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1497. He was also a member of the Goldfish Club, Desron 52 and USS Wasp Associations.

Ed’s favorite pastime was gardening and cultivating shrubbery, and he was known to be very generous with the produce.

His family wishes to thank the staff at Eddy Pond for their compassionate care during the last seven years.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours for Ed Friday, July 22, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, followed by the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. He will then be laid to rest with his wife with military honors at Fairview Cemetery in South Grafton.
