Shrewsbury – With the renovation and expansion of the library building nearly complete, programs and services of the Shrewsbury Public library will soon be moving back to 609 Main St.
To begin the move process, the temporary library at 214 Lake St. will close at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The library will remain closed for three weeks, during which time the collection of over 130,000 items will be moved and reintegrated, information technology systems will be finalized, and staff will prepare for starting services and programs at the “new” library.
Extended due dates have been provided on all items checked out in the last month, so that no items will be due until after the library reopens. Patrons are asked to hold all returns until Tuesday, Sept. 6 if possible, or return at other public libraries in adjacent communities.
All holds and interlibrary loans will automatically be shipped to Northborough Free Library, 34 Main St. during the period the Shrewsbury library will be closed. The Northborough library is open Monday 12-8:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to – 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If a requested item has not already been placed in transit, patrons can select another “pick up library” of their choice, through their personal CWMARS accounts. Shrewsbury librarians can assist with this process by phone.
During the closed period the library will have a call center in place to assist patrons with general questions, booking of museum passes and more. The call center will be open Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Museum passes may be picked up and returned at Town Hall, 100 Maple Ave., during the period the library is closed. No returns of books or other library materials will be accepted at this location. (Please note: Town Hall is closed on weekends and closes at 4:30 p.m. each weekday). The call center phone number is 508-842-0081.
The library will reopen for the public on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. A grand opening celebration is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., to coincide with the Spirit of Shrewsbury festivities. All are invited to attend to attend.
