Obit Lawrence F. MullaneyHudson – Lawrence Francis Mullaney, 87, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at his residence Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016. He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley A. (Heaton) Mullaney of Hudson.

Lawrence was born and raised in Providence, R.I., son of the late Edward and Helen (Vigneau) Mullaney. He attended local schools, including LaSalle Academy in Providence. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1952.

He had resided in Hudson the past 53 years and worked as an Electronic Technician for 35-plus years at the M.I.T. Lincoln Lab in Lexington until his retirement.

He was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson, past member of the Hudson Elks, and member of the Wood Carvers Association. He was a devoted volunteer with the Hudson Senior Center “Meals on Wheels” program.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven Mullaney M.D. and his wife Arlene Walsh of Haverhill, Sheryl Kottmann and her husband Gerald of Hubbardston, and Francine Hern and her husband David of Salem, N.H. He is also survived by his brother, Leo Mullaney of Warwick, R.I.; and his four loving grandchildren, Andrew Hern, Victoria Hern, Campbell Mullaney, and Lilly Mullaney, along with his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward Mullaney, John Mullaney, Joseph Mullaney, and Regina Bunn.

Lawrence was an avid fisherman and always looked forward to the many fishing excursions he took throughout his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood carving, watching sporting events on television and reading, especially in the study of history. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family, especially later with his grandchildren. His memories are to be cherished by all who loved and knew him and his “gift of gab” will truly be missed.

Family and friends may attend calling hours Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 1-2:30 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson (www.tighehamilton.com). A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial services will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
