Marlborough – William “Bill” Richards, 62, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 17, 2016 after a brief illness.  He was the husband of Margaret “Peg” (Simoneau) Richards to whom he was married for 40 years.

He was born in Scranton, Pa., the son of the late William P. Richards and Angelina (Cordaro) Richards of Hudson, and lived in Marlborough for the past 40 years.

Bill was a graduate of Hudson Catholic High School, class of 1971. He worked many years as an insurance broker for Metlife before retiring and going back to work part time.

He was a member of the former Saint Ann’s Parish in Marlborough and was currently a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Marlborough.

Bill served as a coach and member of the Board of Directors of Marlborough Youth Baseball and Marlborough Jr. Babe Ruth Baseball for many years, as well as coaching basketball at the Marlborough Boys Club. He was also a longtime member of the Bandiera Concordia Lodge of the Sons of Italy in Marlborough.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William N. “Billy” Richards and his wife Grace of Marlborough; two brothers, John Richards and his wife Julie of Hudson and Michael Richards and his wife Andrea of Nashua, N.H.; one sister, Catherine O’Connor and her husband Jake of Holden; his in-laws, Norman and Carleen Simoneau of Marlborough; three sisters-in-law, Maryann Cooney of Marlborough, Maureen Callahan of Milford, and Kathy Barsano of Rhode Island; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, from 5-8 p.m., in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough.
