Obit George J. LeonardNorthborough – George J. Leonard, 79, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 in UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus in Worcester, after a prolonged illness. His wife, Janice (Buxton) Leonard, died in 1996 and a daughter, Lori Rumsey, died in 2015.

He leaves behind his children, Robin St. Jean of Northborough, Gregory Leonard of Hudson, Lynne Quiry of North Grafton, Deanne Mauro of Bradford, Dawn Kollett of Uxbridge, Kevin Leonard of Northborough, and Mark Leonard of Westborough. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Leonard of Waltham; and nieces and nephews.

George was raised in Waltham and lived in Northborough for over 50 years.

He spent his career as an accountant at Raytheon Company in Waltham and Northborough for 35-plus years. He served as chairman of the Appropriations Committee for the Town of Northborough during the 1980s. One of his favorite pastimes was watching professional sports on TV.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 4-7 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. George’s funeral will take place Thursday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
