Region – The Reliant Medical Group Foundation announced the fifth annual “Reliant Foundation 5k” charity road race and walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, to raise funds to battle childhood obesity in central Massachusetts and Metrowest.
“Our 5K is a great way to involve more people in a fun, healthy event and to bring teams of runners together,” said Kelsa Zereski, director of philanthropy at Reliant Medical Group. “Teams of three or more will compete for either the Corporate & Community Trophy or for the Reliant Cup, which is open to Reliant staff.”
The race starts and ends at Shore Park, next to the Greendale Family Branch YMCA, 75 Shore Drive, Worcester, with the certified 5k course looping around scenic Indian Lake. WXLO on-air personality Jen Carter will serve as emcee. The race is chip-timed, and prizes will be award to overall top male and female finishers, as well as to top age-category finishers. The family friendly event is open to all ages, and strollers and dogs are welcome.
From September 1-28, fees are $35; $40 on race day; $15 for kids 12 and under. All registered by Tuesday, Sept. 20, will receive a long-sleeve Tek shirt. Registered dogs will receive a personalized doggie gift bag.
Proceeds support community grants made by Reliant Medical Group Foundation to local nonprofits working toward the foundation’s top priority, battling childhood obesity. Tufts Health Plan and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts are presenting sponsors of this year’s race. Cumulus Radio is media sponsor.
The Fall Fitness 5K Series continues with the Boroughs Family YMCA Spooktacular on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Westborough and concludes with the Community Harvest Project 5K Sunday, Nov. 6, in North Grafton. Overall series finisher will win the Triple Threat Medal.
