Northborough – Diane L. (Hawkesworth) Toomy, 57, died at home Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, after a long, courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
She leaves her devoted husband of 34 years, Mark C. Toomy; her loving children, Robert Toomy and Allison Rebello of Ashland, Stephen Toomy of Watertown, and Katie Toomy of Northborough; her father, Howard Hawkesworth of Worcester; siblings, Gary Hawkesworth and wife Gloria of Nevada, Brian Hawkesworth of Gardner, Debra O’Donnell and husband Chris of Worcester, Donna Quick of Worcester, Peter Hawkesworth, and Michelle Nemanich of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (O’Brien) Hawkesworth.
Diane graduated from Doherty High School, class of 1977, and Westfield State College. In the 1990s, she worked as a home daycare provider.
She was a president and a longtime member of the Northborough Jr. Woman’s Club. Most recently, she served as a teacher’s aide at Zeh Elementary School and Finn Elementary School in Southborough.
Diane enjoyed playing Sunday morning soccer with friends at 135 fields. She enjoyed annual weekends away with childhood friends. Most of all, she lived for her children. Her life revolved around her family.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4-7 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. Diane’s funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m., in St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane’s memory may be made to Mary Finn School Library, 60 Richards Rd., Southborough, MA 01772.
