Westborough – Ideal autumn weather Sept. 24 contributed to a successful eighth annual Arts in Common presented by the Westborough Cultural Council at the Bay State Green. Throughout the six-hour arts festival, 20 acts of all ages performed music, dance, theater and comedy on two stages. About two dozen artisans displayed and sold handcrafted items while nonprofit organizations shared information. Refreshments were available from local eateries.

New this year as co-emcees on the bandstand were Westborough Public Schools Superintendent Amber Block and Bo Daley, Westborough branch manager of Central One Federal Credit Union. Co-emceeing at an additional stage stationed in a tent were Westborough High School (WHS) students Nicole Bates, a senior, and Caroline Thibault, a junior.

Other WHS students assisted in various capacities including the Kids Corner with pumpkin painting and glitter tattoos. A silent auction helped the Westborough Cultural Council continue to offer the region’s only free arts festival.

Once again supporting Arts in Common were its founding sponsors: Amica Insurance, EMSEAL Joint Systems Ltd., Richard and Diane Irwin, Marlborough Savings Bank and Roche Brothers. This year’s corporate sponsors were Central One Federal Credit Union; Barbara Cantwell of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.; state Rep. Hannah Kane, R-Shrewsbury; and New Hope Chapel.
