obit-frances-martelMarlborough – Frances C. (Gorman) Lacroix Martel, 85 of Marlborough, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2016.

Born in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Lauretta (Goulet) Gorman and the wife of Normand G. Martel, to whom she had been married for the past 23 years. She had also been the wife of the late Richard Lacroix, who died in 1990.

A graduate of St. Anne’s Academy, class of 1948, Mrs. Martel had been employed as the secretary to the president of the 1st National Bank of Marlborough, later becoming WCIS.

A longtime member of the former St. Mary’s Parish, she was active in Our Lady of the Assumption Guild, the Parish choir and the Ace of Clubs. Following her retirement in 1996, she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV and spending winters in Florida. She also enjoyed dancing and the company of family and friends.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Theresa Mills and her husband George of Northborough and Karen Davis of Marlborough; her stepchildren, Marie and Peter Richman of Northridge, Calif., Lisa Martel of Marlborough, Raymond Martel of Fall River, Richard and Lynne Martel of Uxbridge, Paul and Linda Martel of North Andover, and John Martel of Chicopee; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Mills and her husband Conor Buckland of Norwich, Conn., Danielle Davis of Lincoln, Jonathan Davis and his girlfriend Jillian of Hudson, Leah and Brian Martel, Grant and Tess Richman and Nicole and Jason Martel; and her great-grandchildren, Austin, Riley, Logan, and Maeve.

A gentle and kind lady, she will be missed by her family and many longtime friends.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 5-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernadette Church, 266 Main St. (Route 20), Northborough.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough.
