obit-sherry-caseyShrewsbury – Sherry Casey’s five-year struggle with cancer came to its end Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016. She died peacefully while surrounded by her family at home. She was 65.

She was born Aug. 2, 1951 in Holden, a daughter of Richard H. and Virginia I. (Pyne) Lavigne. Raised in Shrewsbury, she was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School with the class of 1969. She married her high school sweetheart, Peter Casey, April 24, 1971 in St. Anne’s Church, and had been a lifelong Shrewsbury resident.

Sherry worked for over 14 years at the former Spag’s Supply Co., as well as the former State Mutual Co. in Worcester. Prior to her retirement in 2012, she was the benefits coordinator for the town of Shrewsbury where she worked for over 14 years.

She loved spending time on Cape Cod, either in Sandwich or Falmouth, on the boat, reading a good book, and tending to her gardens with her green thumb.

Her family extends their thanks to the medical staff at Metrowest Homecare & Hospice, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Brigham & Women’s Hospital for the wonderful care extended to Sherry and the family.

Sherry’s love lives on in the hearts of her husband of 45 years, Peter; their children Andrea D. Gilrein and her husband Paul, all of Shrewsbury, Jennifer L. Belcufine and her husband Paul of Worcester, and Justin M. Casey of Shrewsbury; her parents, Dick and Ginny Lavigne of Shrewsbury; her sisters, Karen Millett and her husband Gerald of Worcester, Bonny Granger-Pacillo and her husband Raymond of Shrewsbur and Suzette McCann and her husband Robert of Whitinsville; her granddaughter, Alyssa Casey of Shrewsbury; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Sherry’s life by gathering for calling hours Sunday, Oct. 16, from 3-7 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and again Monday morning, Oct. 17 before leaving in procession to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales St., Worcester where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
