Letter to the editor: Vote yes on ballot Question 2

To the Editor:

Money is the name of the game. It’s the biggest divider on earth and plays a role in everything.  A majority of taxes goes to the education system with some schools doing better than others.  If you live in a low income district then your child will never have the same opportunities as a better funded district. Question 2 (would authorize the approval of up to 12 new charter schools or enrollment expansions in existing charter schools by the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education per year) can be your students way out.  It would raise the maximum number of charter schools by 12 allowing an equal opportunity for everyone in the state. Many argue that charters will take away money from already failing school districts. However if the state couldn’t afford more schools this question wouldn’t have made it to the ballot.  Even if money was being taken from the system, what’s the point in continuing to pump money into failing schools that will never change without serious help.  I would vote yes on Question 2. There is nothing wrong with spending money on better schools for our students.
