Grafton – Guests bundled in autumn layers on a brisk Nov. 6 as they attended the 10th annual Harvest Home Festival, hosted by the Community Harvest Project at the Brigham Hill Community Farm in North Grafton.
Eighth-grader Karley Edwards of Grafton Middle School sang the national anthem before about 250 runners and walkers participated in the fourth annual Harvest Home 5K Race and one-mile walk on the Grafton Land Trust trails. Finishing first overall in 18:13 was Evan Griffith of North Grafton. Bethany Woodcock, a Westborough High School sophomore, was the first-place female finishing in 22:26, marking her second consecutive year of the achievement. The Harvest Home Race is part of the Fall Fitness 5K Series, organized in partnership with the YMCA of Central Massachusetts and Reliant Medical Group Foundation.
Afterward, race participants and others enjoyed a full day of activities. In addition to a food tent and vendors, the festival featured live musical entertainment, tractor-drawn hayrides, pumpkin catapults, apple cannons, bonfire, pony rides, bounce house, as well as children’s crafts and games.
The event raises funds and awareness for the Community Harvest Project, a nonprofit farm with volunteers growing produce for those in need of assistance throughout Worcester County. For information, visit www.community-harvest.org and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CHPINC.
