obit-angela-g-mannaWorcester – Angela G. Manna, 91, of Worcester, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in the Beaumont at University Commons Skilled Nursing Facility.

Angela is survived by her cherished sister, Nicola M. Wyman of Shrewsbury; her brother, Joseph Manna in Puerto Rico; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Three brothers, Angelo, Michael, and George Manna, and three sisters, Antoinette Bartels, Teresa Harley, and Dorothy Barbato, all predeceased her.

Angela was born in Worcester, one of nine children born to Italian immigrants Joseph and Josephine (Pacillo) Manna. She graduated from Commerce High School, earned her degree in teaching  from Clark University in 1962 and her Master’s degree in education in 1964 from Worcester State College. She then accepted a position in the Worcester School department where she taught many years until retiring in 1990. Angela has lived in Worcester and Shrewsbury all her life.

Angela was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and a member of the Massachusetts Teacher and National Education Associations. She traveled extensively throughout the World visiting close to 30 different countries, with her many school-teacher friends.

Angela’s funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 21 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a procession to the Church of Saint Anne, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury, where her Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to departing for Mass.

The Manna family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Beaumont at University Campus Skilled Nursing Center for the excellent care and compassion they gave to Angela for many years prior to her passing.
