Leominster – The Central Mass. Division 3 champion Grafton High School Indians football team defeated the Western Mass. champion Taconic High School Braves, by score of 26-13 in a state Division 3 semi-final playoff game. The game was played Nov. 19 at Doyle Field in Leominster.
Grafton’s Ifeatu Melifonwu dominated the game, scoring three touchdowns, hauling in an interception, and even completing a 28-yard pass.
After a scoreless first quarter, Melifonwu scored his first touchdown on 1-yard run mid-way thru the second quarter.
The game broke open in the third quarter, with Melifonwu on the receiving end of a touchdown pass by Matthew Holbrook, and scoring his second rushing touchdown of the game.
Ethan Farrah scored Grafton’s final touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Grafton advances to play the Southern Mass. champion, Hanover, in the State Division 3 championship game, which will be played Dec. 3 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
