Westborough – Sunny skies and unseasonably comfortable temperatures Nov. 19 set the scene as the Westborough Education Foundation (WEF) hosted its third annual Turkey Trot. The 5K road race began and ended at Westborough High School (WHS).
The event began with Boy Scout Troop 100 presenting the colors while the WHS a cappella group Double Take sang the national anthem. Over 700 runners and walkers completed the 5K route. Andy Gardiner of Dover finished first overall in 16:41. Laura Alonso of Westborough was the first-place female in 20:46.
Afterward, Athletic Revolution supervised a Kids Fun Run on the WHS track. Races took place for three age categories: 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 11.
Participants were encouraged to bring nonperishable items for the Westborough Food Pantry.
A subcommittee of WEF, the Turkey Trot raises funds to support Westborough Public Schools’ initiatives not covered by the annual budget. Proceeds from the first two years’ fundraiser went to district-wide technology initiatives. This year, proceeds will go to the WHS athletic facilities renovation project.
