obit-dorothy-a-skiestShrewsbury – Dorothy A. (Vuona) Skiest, 79, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016 in the Beaumont Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy is survived by her five devoted sons, Kevin A. Skiest of Sarasota, Fla., Mark D. Skiesto and his fiancée Karen of Shrewsbury, Steven M Skiest and his fiancé Michele of Berlin, Terrence Skiest and his wife Sherry of Shrewsbury, and Erick Skiest and his wife Janette of Logan, Utah. She was the proud grandmother to Adam, Christopher, Sara, Mark Anthony, Tina Marie, Donny, Steven Jr., Michael, Lyndsy, Jacquelyn, Joshua and Jacob. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Luis, Izaiah, Evan, and Ryan. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Michelle Skiest. She was the longtime companion to the late Richard Fisher. Among her large Italian family, Dorothy also leaves her loving brothers and sisters, Michael Vuona Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Shrewsbury, Robert Vuona and his wife Theresa of California, Jean Perro and her husband Kenneth of Florida, Richard Vuona and his wife Janet of Shrewsbury, Maurice “Butch” Vuona and his wife Arlene of Florida, Marie Vuona-Flanagan and life partner Henry Grech of Florida, and Patrick Vuona and his wife Toni of Florida, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Dorothy was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Michael Sr. and Lucy “Sally” (Abasciano) Vuona, and lived most of her life in Shrewsbury. She also lived in Boylston for several years. She was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, and was employed at Orlando’s Supermarket, Spag’s, and also Shaw’s Market before she retired. She attended St. Anne’s Church.

Dorothy was an excellent bowler who also enjoyed playing bocce. Being the typical Italian mother with five sons, there was never a dull moment in the house! She loved to cook and provide a happy home for her family.

Dorothy enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Beaumont Nursing Center for their heartfelt compassion and dedication for the excellent care and treatment she received.

Dorothy’s funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 2 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, from 4-7 p.m., in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
