Westborough – Fire Captain Jason Ferschke was sworn in as deputy fire chief at the Nov. 29 Board of Selectmen meeting. Fire Chief Patrick Purcell introduced Ferschke who was joined by his wife, Jill, their children and many of his department colleagues.
Purcell thanked the Board of Selectmen for allowing the swearing in to take place at this meeting and for approving the creation of the new position of deputy fire chief at a previous Board of Selectmen meeting.
“We have worked really hard to move this department forward,” Purcell said. “This position will provide continuity and enable our operations to run more efficiently.”
He reminded the board that this position is being funded within his department’s budget.
Ferschke is a paramedic and has over 15 years of fire service experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a master’s degree in public administration from Anna Maria College, and various certifications. He will soon complete fire officer training through the University of Massachusetts Boston at the Massachusetts’s Fire Fighter Academy.
