Westborough – Westborough will again join with the Worcester Police Department and UMass Memorial Health Care in their annual “Goods for Guns” buyback program Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Worcester Police Department headquarters, 911 Lincoln Square.

Westborough residents may bring guns to Worcester in exchange for gift cards ranging from $25 to $75 per gun depending on the type of gun, or call the Westborough Police Department at 508-366-3060 to have an officer come to their home to pick up the weapon for no payment. All firearms and replica guns will be accepted.

This injury prevention program was started in response to statistics that maintain that a guns in the home are more dangerous to residents than intruders. According to Arthur Kellerman’s article “Injuries and Deaths Due to Firearms in the Home,” “a gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used to kill or injure in a domestic homicide, suicide, or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.
