South Boston – Richard T. Cochran, 81, of South Boston, formerly of Westborough, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at the Marian Manor in South Boston.

Born and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Lillian G. (Hardcastle) Cochran. He attended Boston Latin School through high school. Later, he earned an undergraduate in theology from Boston College and a Master’s degree from Catholic University of America and a Master’s of Philosophy from Syracuse University.

He taught school for some years at the high school level, then later was the Religious Education Director at St. Luke’s Parish in Westborough for 10 years. His last career was as a technical writer and manager at GTE, Wang Computer, and other computer companies.

Devoted brother to Lillian T. Cochran, now of South Boston, he also cared for his parents in Westborough for many years. He loved music and vacations to Bailey’s Island, Maine, where he frequented as a child. He and his sister Lillian shared a home in Westborough, where they supported each other and later were together again at Marian Manor in South Boston.

Dick was a man of deep faith. He was a daily communicant and parishioner at St. Luke’s Church and in his infirmity at Marian Manor. He participated in the life of the parish in various ways, as lector, teacher and ordinary faithful. Dick was remembered for his intellect and caring attention to his friends.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 22, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Thursday, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.
