obit-aspasia-korandanisMarlborough – Aspasia “Bessie” (Hassapes) Korandanis, 93, of Marlborough, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2016.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Hresoula (Jokaris)Hassapes and the wife of the late Arthur “Swede” Korandanis, who died in 2003.

A lifelong resident of Marlborough, Bessie graduated from Marlborough High School, class of 1940.

She worked in family businesses, starting at an early age working at Valley Acres Farm. She married in 1950 and continued to work at family owned businesses, including the former City Hall Market and Bronx Lounge.

She was a longtime and faithful member of Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, and the Enosis /Philoptochos Society.

She had style and a passion for shopping. She happily spent many winters in Fort Myers, Fla. and always looked forward to cooking and baking for her family, especially at the holidays.

She is survived by her son, Alex Korandanis of Marlborough; her daughter, Alexis Korandanis of Marlborough; her grandson, Jackson Bliss and his wife Alison of Cotuit; and her great-grandchildren, who knew her as great yiayia, Summer and Starrla Bliss; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Apostales”Paul” and Aristides”Ted” Hassapes.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, from 4-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m., at Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 9 Central St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Pleasant Street, Marlborough.
