Region – Senator Harriette L. Chandler (D-Worcester) announced that the Senate Office of Education & Civic Engagement will host the 78th Citizens’ Legislative Seminar (CLS) on Tuesday, March 21, and Wednesday, March 22, at the State House in Boston.

Established in 1976 through a collaborative effort of the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts, the two-day semi-annual educational seminar is geared toward adults of all ages interested in learning more about state government and the legislative process.

“I highly encourage any resident of the 1st Worcester District to consider CLS and reach out to my office with his or her interest,” said Chandler. “Seats are limited and nominations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the deadline on Friday, Jan. 20.”

CLS will feature engaging presentations by senators and staff on aspects of the day-to-day experience of legislators in the commonwealth and culminates in a simulated legislative hearing and Senate session where participants are invited to use what they have learned and participate as “senators” in the Senate Chamber in order to have a firsthand experience of the legislative process. Other seminar topics include: the history and process of the Legislature, parliamentary role of the clerk of the Senate, future of the Legislature, and details of the legislative process, such as how bills are introduced, debated and passed.

Any constituent of the 1st Worcester District will reside in the following: the towns of Boylston, Clinton (precincts 3 and 4), Holden, Northborough (precincts 1, 2 and 4), Princeton, West Boylston, and the city of Worcester (wards 1 to 4, inclusive; ward 8, precincts 2 to 4, inclusive; and wards 9 and 10). Call 617-722-1544 by Friday, Jan. 20, to be considered for nomination to CLS.
