Region – The Foundation for MetroWest is currently accepting applications for their Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) programs to take place this spring in Hopkinton, Sudbury and Wellesley. Applications are currently being accepted online at www.foundationformetrowest.org/YIP through Tuesday, Jan. 17, with programs beginning in late January. YIP-Hopkinton will be held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts on Tuesday evenings, YIP-Sudbury will be held at The Sudbury Foundation’s office in Sudbury on Tuesday evenings, and YIP-Wellesley will be held at the Wellesley Police Department on Monday evenings. Students living throughout the MetroWest region in ninth to 12th grade are eligible and welcome to apply.

Through a unique educational experience, YIP provides participants the knowledge to become engaged and informed civic leaders in our community by learning the importance of philanthropy and the needs that exist in our backyard. YIP also helps local youth develop valuable 21st century skills, including critical thinking, understanding budgets, public speaking, reaching consensus, and case-making. Ultimately, the group of 20 high school students work together to evaluate grant applications and distribute funds to worthy nonprofits working to serve youth in our communities.

Since launching in 1997, the Foundation for MetroWest’s Youth in Philanthropy program has educated over 1,100 students who have granted over $1 million to 140 Metrowest youth development organizations.
