Marlborough – The reappointment of the city’s Chief Procurement Officer Beverly Sleeper; City Clerk Lisa Thomas and Auditor Diane Smith were approved by the City Council at its Jan. 9 meeting. They will all serve a three-year term as recommended by Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

In his request to councilors, the Mayor praised Sleeper “for playing a crucial role in large scale procurements for the senior center and the Richer Elementary School project.”

On Smith’s behalf, Vigeant said, “For the past ten years Ms. Smith has proven to be an invaluable resource for the city and a strong department manager.”

City Council President Edward Clancy urged councilors to approve the city clerk’s reappointment stating, “Ms. Thomas and her staff have far exceeded the goals set for them.  She is always looking for ways to improve customer service in the office and better ways to conduct the business of the people.”

Councilors then gave Thomas a standing ovation.

Councilors also approved the reappointment of residents to the Council on Aging.  Leslie Biggar will serve a three-year term expiring in May 2019.  Rose Marie Elwood, Jeanne McGeough and Pat Gallier will serve two-year terms, expiring May 2018.

New members to the Cultural Council were also approved.  Stephen D’Alessandro and Jessica Bowen will serve for a term of three years.  Melissa Viera, whose term expired in August 2016, was approved   to serve until August 2019.
