Helen E. Caswell, 86, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Mrs. Helen E. (McLeod) Caswell, of Shrewsbury, died at home Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 with her children by her side. She was 86.

Born Nov. 5, 1930 in Haverhill, she was a daughter of the late Fulton G. and Lila (Allen) McLeod. Raised and educated in Haverhill, she graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1948, and later from McIntosh Business School in Haverhill. She married Edward J. Caswell April 14, 1956 in Church of the Nazarene in Haverhill. They later moved to Shrewsbury in 1971. After 58 years of marriage, Ed died Dec. 1, 2014.

Helen had a variety of office positions at the former Oliver M. Dean Co. in Shrewsbury before retiring.

She was a former longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. She and Ed enjoyed traveling, including several cross country trips after retirement and spending time at their cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee. Other interests of Helen’s included reading, puzzles, quilting, outdoor activities, cooking and baking.

She leaves her children, James E. Caswell Sr. and his wife Mary (Harrison) of Shrewsbury and Jan E. (Caswell) Barlow and her husband Roy of Brimfield; her grandchildren, James E. Caswell Jr. of Webster and Sarah A. (Caswell) Lawton and her husband John of Dudley; a sister-in-law, Gretchen (Page) Caswell, of Haverhill; several nieces and nephews, including, Carlene “Carrie” (Clay) Segeberg of San Antonio, Texas, Cheryl Perkins of Haverhill, and William Caswell of E. Kingston, N.H.; and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Verna (McLeod) (Clay) Perkins.

Friends and family will gather privately in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Home ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
