Hildegard M. Ailarow, 93, of MarlboroughMarlborough – Hildegard M. (Grusdat) Ailarow, 93, of Marlborough, formerly of Falmouth, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

Born in Wernesgrun, Germany, the youngest of nine children, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Elisabeth (Grusdat) Ailarow.

Mrs. Ailarow and her late husband, Alexander Ailarow, who died Feb. 14, 1997, immigrated to the United States arriving in New York Feb. 14, 1952.

A housekeeper for the Curtis family in Marlborough, she later worked at the Diamond and Frye Shoe Companies.

In 1972, Mrs. Ailarow retired and moved to Falmouth, where she spent her time maintaining her beautiful gardens of which she was most proud. She also enjoyed music and, as a member of the Senior Center, she visited local nursing facilities singing for the residents. She passed on many stories of her life in Germany and the difficulties of settling in a new country. She returned to Marlborough in 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Maretina E. Colombo and her husband Robert of Marlborough, with whom she made her home, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, from 6-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery Wilson Street, Marlborough.
