Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Education Foundation (SEF) hosted its annual Fundraising and Grants Awards Dinner Jan. 21 at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston. SEF Board member Maureen Harrington coordinated this year’s dinner which was a sold out event. Local musician Andrew Clark performed with his acoustic guitar.

“The Shrewsbury Education Foundation was delighted to have a sellout crowd at this year’s event,” SEF Co-president Chris Jeutten said. “The evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful town and our fantastic school district. It was great to see our educators, town leaders, and policymakers join together to recognize the game changers in our schools and community.”

SEF is an all-volunteer organization that raises money to fund grants which put resources and programs directly into the classroom.

Seventeen grants have been awarded for the 2016–2017 school year, totaling $11,576.85. These grant recipients were honored at the dinner along with the John P. Collins Awards for Excellence that exemplify excellence in education and embody the mission of the Shrewsbury Public Schools. For a complete listing of grants and John P. Collins awards, visit SEFGrants.org.

This year’s Community Service Award honoree, Shrewsbury Town Manager Daniel J. Morgado, was introduced by Shrewsbury School Superintendent and past Community Service Award recipient, Dr. Joseph Sawyer. State Representative Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury) presented citations from both chambers of the state legislature to Morgado for his service. Morgado recently announced that he will be retiring this coming summer.

Sponsors of SEF for the current school year include: Presenting – Robert “Chief Joseph” Terkanian; Blue & Gold – Avidia Bank and Central One Federal Credit Union; Silver – Hannah Kane Charity Classic, Lamoureux Pagano & Associates, Dunkin’ Donuts Shrewsbury and Aurora Exterior Painting; SEF Patron – Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union, Thrive Real Estate Specialists, Flaherty Physical Therapy, and Webster Five.
