Joao C. Monteiro, 87, of HudsonHudson – Joao C. Monteiro, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Maria J. Monteiro, also of Hudson.

Joao was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal. The son of the late Manuel P. and Angelina (Chaves) Monteiro, he resided in Portugal until moving to Hudson in 1966.

He was employed at S&F Concrete for over 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Saint Michaels Parish of Hudson and the Hudson Portuguese Club.

Joao was very proud of his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy. He enjoyed spending the summers in his house in Santa Maria. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his friends and watching his favorite soccer team Benfica. He loved having his family and friends visit.

Joao is survived by his children, Joe Monteiro and his wife Rosa of Fairhaven, Maria Chaves and her husband Victor of Marlborough, Tony Monteiro and his wife Fatima of Hudson, Elia Braga and her husband Fernando of Hudson, and Olga Cabral and her husband Joao of Hudson. He was also the father of the late Denis Monteiro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle Andrade, Suzette Monteiro, Mark Loura, Scotty Monteiro, Michael Monteiro, Derek Loura, Tina Braga, Denis Cabral, Jeffrey Braga, Lindsay Delaney, Tanya Braga, Krystal Monteiro, and Sean Cabral; 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Gloria Monteiro and Maria Sousa; his brother, Jose Maria Monteiro; and a very large extended family. He was the brother of the late Angelo Monteiro, Manuel Puim, Jose Monteiro, Francisco Monteiro, Antonio Monteiro, and Maria Monteiro.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 17, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., 50 Central St., Hudson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson.
