Sister Lorraine Michaud, SSCh, of MarlboroughMarlborough – Sister Lorraine Michaud, SSCh (Sr. Marie Aime), died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at Marie Esther Health of Marlborough.

Born in Amesbury, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Clarinda(Joyal) Michaud. She began teaching in Ipswich and Rumford, Maine parochial schools. She had a great desire to go to the missions. In 1964,she missioned to teach the children of the Little Red River Cree Nation in Fox Lake, Alberta, Canada until 1968 when she spent some time deepening her knowledge of the Cree language and culture.

In 1970, she embarked on a new ministry, that of pastoral services, first to the people of Garden River and in 1976, among the people of Fox Lake, upon the death of their priest. Sr. Lorraine was totally devoted to the people, preparing Sunday services, visiting homes, preparing people for the Sacraments, and assisting them in their joys and sorrows.

In 1994, Sr.Lorraine returned to the United States for a sabbatical year. In 1995-1997, she did pastoral ministry at the Sister’s Nazareth center house of prayer.

In 1997, she generously accepted to come to the retirement community in Marlborough, where she gave herself to the Sisters tirelessly as Coordinator for 9 years. Sr. Lorraine was greatly appreciated for her generosity, simplicity, and compassion, always ready to serve.

She is survived by her sisters, Jacqueline Deschenes and Helena Doherty of Amesbury.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 7, from 4-7 p.m., at the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence, 197 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the Chapel of the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough.
