Marlborough – Mary Elizabeth (Quinn) McCook, 96, born Feb. 9, 1921, died peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Wingate Nursing Home in Sudbury. She was the wife of James C. McCook, the former owner of McCook’s Pharmacy, which operated in Marlborough on West Main Street from 1950 through the late 1980s. Mr. McCook died in 1991. Mary and James McCook were married for 49 years.

Mary McCook was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor Quinn of Maynard, and lived in Marlborough for more than 40 years.

Before her long-term nursing care, Mary McCook was very active in the Immaculate Conception parish church and school and supported her husband in the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus activities. She was a very active, devoted, and grateful member of AA and Al-Anon for many years. Her hobby and her legacy are the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren she leaves behind. She loved music and dancing and had an exceptional taste for fashion.

She is survived by three daughters and nine sons and their spouses, Hibiscus Rose of Hopkinton, Kathy Scarpa and Frank Scarpa of Ipswich, Eleanor McCook of Worcester, John and Stephanie McCook of Frisco, Texas, William and Martha McCook of Marlborough, James and Barbara of Louisville, Ky., Joseph McCook of Wauwatosa, Wis,, Daniel and Patricia McCook of Marlborough, Anthony and Sue McCook of Salem, N.H., Christopher and Theresa McCook of Watkinsville, Ga., Gerard and Maureen McCook of Marlborough,Thomas McCook and Karen deMoor of Moss Beach, Calif. She was predeceased by a daughter, Bernadette McCook. In addition to her 12 living children, Mary McCook was the proud grandmother of 32 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held Thursday, March 30, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Marlborough. Visiting hours at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough, will be held Wednesday, March 29, from 6-8 p.m.
