Walter F. Tierney, 80, of MarlboroughMarlborough – Walter F. Tierney, 80, of Marlborough, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 27, 2017 at his home. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jacquelyn H. Tierney, in 2012.

Walter was born in Boston, son of the late Elizabeth Tierney. He spent most of his younger years in Boston until he moved to Hudson, where he raised his family.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Boston as a letter carrier for over 30 years.

Walter was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was an avid poker player and had a love of opera.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen McCarthy and her husband Daniel of Marlborough, Andrew Tierney and his wife Melanie of Richmond, R.I., Steven Tierney and his wife Erin of North Brookfield, and Judith Crouse and her husband John of Bethel, Conn., and was predeceased by his son, Kevin Tierney, in 1993. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Neilson of Medford; his 13 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday, May 1, from 4-7 p.m., in the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Funeral services for Walter will be held Tuesday, May 2 from the funeral home, with a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Forestvale Cemetery.
