Shrewsbury – The Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council 4181 in Shrewsbury is busy planning its fourth annual Charity Golf Tournament to be held Friday, June 16, at Juniper Hill Golf Course, 202 Brigham St., in Northborough. Proceeds will benefit their local charitable programs which include special needs children, community and church projects, St. Anne’s Human Services, and scholarships.

The nonprofit Catholic men’s charitable organization is supported locally solely by volunteers and has been active in town since 1956.  With approximately 300 members on the books and 75 of them active, its membership primarily comes from St. Mary’s and St. Anne’s parishes in Shrewsbury.

The tournament is organized by brother Knights Andy Dileo and Greg Morelli.

“Special needs kids programs are our number one priority and we do a lot of good within the community and the church,” Dileo explained.

In addition to raising funds, they are quite visible around town and can be found serving their famous sausages at The Spirit of Shrewsbury, donating turkeys at Thanksgiving and hosting a giving tree at Christmas for St. Anne’s that provides roughly $1,500 in toys and gift cards to kids in need.

The golf tournament, now in its fourth year, is the Knights’ biggest fundraiser. Dileo explained that he resurrected this event which had been defunct for many years.  Last year, the tournament raised $10,000.

“I’d like to repeat that again this year,” he said.

This year’s tournament will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.  The tournament can accommodate 72 golfers with slots for foursomes as well as individuals. For a fee of $125, each golfer receives a round of golf (Florida-style format), a cart and entry to dinner. Prizes will be awarded to top scorers at the dinner, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Those who are unable to golf but wish to attend the dinner are welcome for $30 per person. The dinner will also feature raffles.

Dileo pointed out that they are always looking for more sponsors. Sponsor levels include: Hole Sponsor at $200, which includes a tee sign; Friend of Knights Sponsor at $500 which includes a tee sign and twosome for golf and dinner; Major Sponsorship at $1,000, which includes pre-event advertising, a tee sign and foursome for golf and dinner, and Tournament Sponsor at $2,000, which includes a sponsor banner at the tournament along with advertising, a tee sign and foursome for golf and dinner.

“Dunkin Donuts of Shrewsbury has been our main sponsor and the Caddette Family has been very generous,” Dileo noted. “Mercandente [Funeral Home and Chapel] in Worcester have also been very supportive.”

The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 31. If you have any questions or wish to become a sponsor, contact Dileo at [email protected], or 508-797-2403. To register to golf or attend the dinner, make checks payable to Knights of Columbus #4181 and mail to the attention of Andy Dileo, 42 Wachusett Ave., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
