Binkeez for Comfort cancels upcoming fundraiser; Board of Directors resigns

Region – The Board of Directors of the nonprofit Binkeez for Comfort recently announced that it had regretfully made the decision to cancel a fundraiser, “Binkeez and Blooms” that they had scheduled for Friday, May 19 to be held at Tower Hill Botanical Garden.

In announcing the fundraiser cancellation, the board noted that it “had decided that it was most ethical and appropriate to refund all sponsor, ticket and/or auction contributions at this time.”

The refund process has since been completed and the current members of the Board of Directors resigned their respective officer and director positions as of April 30.

In a statement the board said: “Please understand that this decision was unforeseen and precipitated by complication and circumstances within the Binkeez for Comfort organization that the board faced. We believe that the board has thoroughly considered, explored and labored over all options with the hope of being able to hold this soldout fundraising event, which had also surpassed all of our sponsorship expectations.”

In comments made after the statement was released, the board noted that it was still “committed to the idea of making sure that terminally-ill children are supported and comforted” but that they “believe that there may be more cost effective and efficient ways to accomplish that task so [they] decided to move on.”

Binkeez for Comfort is a 501(c)(3) organization which provides blankets to babies and children struggling to survive life-threatening illnesses, acute developmental and mental disorders and severe burns.
