Westborough – Westborough has announced that David Hero will serve as grand marshal for this year’s 2017 Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 29.

Hero is a lifelong fifth-generation resident of Westborough. He was educated in Westborough Public Schools and graduated from Westborough High School in 1965. He then attended Marietta College for a year before joining the Navy in November 1966.

Hero spent five years in the Navy during which time he made nine deterrent patrols on the USS Will Rogers (SSBN 659), the newest of the fleet ballistic missile submarines. He spent the last two years of his service as an instructor at the Naval Guided Missile School in Dam Neck, Va., before being discharged in August 1974.

Following his discharge, he worked for a number of years at G.T.E. on the Minuteman Missile program. He then joined the family business, Dover Inst. Corp., in Westborough, as the treasurer. He later owned Penny’s Pizza and worked part-time at the Green Thumb. He is now retired.

He and his wife Paula presently reside in Westborough, as does their daughter Tracy, her husband Matt, and their three children Nicholas, Anthony and Jenna. Their son Wes lives in Grafton with his bride Nicole and their son Jack. Dave’s mother Shirley Hero recently passed away.
