Grafton –The Grafton-Valley Tech boys’ ice hockey team was welcomed to the Statehouse June 8 by Representative David K. Muradian Jr. (R-Grafton).
The team, comprised of 28 players, along with Head Coach Michael Binkoski and assistant coaches Dave Wooten and Andy Gauthier, began their morning with a stop at the House Chamber. While there, the team was recognized during informal session for their outstanding accomplishments and their success in winning the State Championship.
Shortly thereafter, Muradian treated the group to a tour of the building with stops at Nurses Hall, Doric Hall, and the Great Hall of Flags. Following the tour, the team was treated to a pizza lunch in Nurses Hall where Muradian spoke individually with the players.
“I am not only happy, but also very proud of the Grafton-Valley Tech Boys’ Ice Hockey Team,” Muradian said. “Their commitment to athleticism and sportsmanship is an achievement that we should all aspire to. Congratulations to the players and coaches who are now Massachusetts Division 3A State Champions.”
While in the House Chamber, Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) stopped by to speak with the team and congratulate them on their big win.
“These young men certainly have a lot to be proud of,” Moore said. “I commend the entire team and their coach for a fantastic season. It was great to welcome them to the State House, and to have their achievement recognized in the House Chamber. I wish them the best of luck with all future pursuits – both on and off the rink.”
The Grafton-Valley Tech boys’ ice hockey team is comprised of many talented players. Coach Binkoski has watched the team evolve over the course of the season and felt confident in their ability to win.
“We want to thank Mr. Muradian, Mr. Moore, and their staffs for hosting us,” Binkoski said. “It truly was a special day for these student-athletes to be at the center of the state of Massachusetts. It was an experience that we will never forget.”
The Grafton-Valley Tech Boys Ice Hockey Team includes students from both Grafton High School and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. The team defeated South Hadley March 15 with a 4-0 victory in Springfield to earn the title.
“Hosting the team today has been an honor and I look forward to seeing all the great things the players do in the future,” said Muradian.
