Shrewsbury – Doris Schifftner died Monday, June 26, 2017 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester at the age of 89.
Born in 1927 in Hawthorne, N.J., Doris worked as a secretary for nearly 30 years for the Wyckoff, N.J. Board of Education. She lived in Wyckoff with her husband Charles for 47 years before moving to Shrewsbury in 2000.
Doris loved reading and travel, as well as spending time with her family at the beach. Her favorite places included Cape Cod and the coast of Maine.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Schifftner of Englewood, Colo.; a daughter, Barbara Garner and her husband Cary of Northborough; a grandson, Scott Garner and his wife Mary of Marlborough; a granddaughter, Jane Souza and her husband Michael of Franklin; a granddaughter, Tracy Smith and her husband Kevin of Aurora, Colo.; Carolyn Jewell and her husband Jeremy of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and nine great-grandchildren who brought her great joy in her later years.
There are no calling hours. Burial in New Jersey will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online in her memory to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Boston or the Worcester County Food Bank in Shrewsbury.
