Elaine M. Englund, 85, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Elaine M. (Ekstrom) Englund, 85, of Shrewsbury, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving wife of 60 years to Warren C. Englund, celebrating their anniversary Sept. 7.

Born in Worcester, and raised in Millbury, she was the daughter of the late Hilding and Lillian (Carlson) Ekstrom.

Elaine was very active in her church holding many volunteer positions. She was the church Treasurer, a Sunday school teacher, an IHN and Lutheran home volunteer. She was a member of the Shrewsbury Women’s Club and a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for both her children.

She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Central America. Elaine enjoyed bowling, golfing, word games and trips to Foxwoods Casino.

Elaine was a very special “Mimi” to Dylan Cole and Kira Marie Beckerman and enjoyed watching many of their sporting events and performances. She was kind, loving, thoughtful and wise. She was devoted to her family and friends.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Terri Beckerman, her husband Doug, and their two children, Dylan and Kira, all of Holliston. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Petterson and her husband Eugene of Sterling; her brother-in-law, Richard Englund and his wife Greta of Lake Meade, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Sally E. Walker of Manoment; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Alan C. Englund and the sister of the late Richard Ekstrom and her twin sister, Evelyn Ekstrom, who died at 2-½ years of age.

Family and friends will celebrate Elaine’s life Friday, Sept. 29, from 4-7 p.m., at the Chiampa Funeral Home 〜 The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, on the Common, Shrewsbury Center. Funeral services for Elaine will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m., in Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 34 Prospect St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 34 Prospect St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545 in Elaine’s memory.
